Luminar Neo is an AI photo editor with specialized tools for portrait retouching, sky replacement, background removal, and exposure enhancement — all driven by AI rather than manual masking and adjustment. It works as a standalone application and as a plugin for Lightroom, Photoshop, and Capture One.
Portrait photographers and landscape photographers use it to apply complex edits that previously required significant manual work — replacing overcast skies with dramatic ones, removing distracting backgrounds, and retouching skin with a natural result in far less time. The AI handles selection and masking automatically.
Results quality varies by photo complexity. Well-defined subjects against contrasting backgrounds produce the most accurate automatic selections. Complex edge cases — hair against detailed backgrounds, semi-transparent objects — may produce artifacts requiring manual cleanup. The subscription model replaces the previous perpetual license, which some long-term users prefer.
